When I talk about mentorship, what I really want to see is not more training and teaching, whether pedagogical or experiential. What I do want to see is the weaving of community, of creating support for each other as we move through Life and the development of Being. There will always be few individuals who are truly interested in stepping into public leadership, whether that is leading rituals or teaching or facilitating groups. Those people can be taught those specific skills. But we all need support as we navigate our spiritual lives and the process of Being - guidance and someone to bounce ideas off of - an experienced sounding board more than a teacher.
I think we are looking at the subject of nurturing the next generations too narrowly, and that is a part of the struggle we are facing.Syrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01398306438874467025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9160963932198073980.post-23722788928745314902015-03-06T11:16:36.651-08:002015-03-06T11:16:36.651-08:00Yes, another great resource.Yes, another great resource.Syrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01398306438874467025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9160963932198073980.post-86274819386703419232015-03-05T17:22:36.427-08:002015-03-05T17:22:36.427-08:00Cherry Hill Seminary offers many courses on variou...Cherry Hill Seminary offers many courses on various aspects of leadership.Broomstick Chronicleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11217890674112142957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9160963932198073980.post-4150128381893422222015-03-04T09:00:32.000-08:002015-03-04T09:00:32.000-08:00I'll probably do another post with a links rou...I'll probably do another post with a links roundup of resources. But for now, I will also add:

"Spiritual Mentoring" by our dearly departed Judy Harrow is amazing and one of the few (only?) books focused specifically on mentoring within Paganisms. http://www.amazon.com/Spiritual-Mentoring-A-Pagan-Guide/dp/1550225197

"Ariadne's Thread: A Workbook of Goddess Magic" by our dearly departed Shekhinah Mountainwater has very powerful information on group dynamics and creating safe spaces based in shared power and what to look out for, as well as how to set good agreements and hold boundaries. Its written for women's groups, but that information applies in any group.
http://www.amazon.com/Ariadnes-Thread-Workbook-Goddess-Magic/dp/0895944758

"Truth or Dare: Encounters with Power, Authority, and Mystery" by Starhawk discusses a lot about power and creative alternatives.
http://www.amazon.com/Truth-Dare-Encounters-Authority-Mystery/dp/0062508164/

And Shauna above has many blog posts and books on leadership and ritual facilitation.

Solar Cross is starting an Effective Pagan Leadership Course very soon:
http://www.solarcrosstemple.org/solar-cross-presents/effective-pagan-leadership/

I also mentor and teach various subjects to new Pagans, Witches, and Polytheists and Emerging leaders. I can be reached at SyrenOfMinds@gmail.com.

And I am truly hoping to get a 'Buds and Blossoms' network going. Creating that structure will take a little more time than I have available right now - but soon!Syrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01398306438874467025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9160963932198073980.post-85710406830736374702015-03-03T22:22:18.500-08:002015-03-03T22:22:18.500-08:00What I'd like to say in addition to the "...What I'd like to say in addition to the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" stuff, is that if anyone--any emerging Pagan leader--wants more concrete advice specific to them and what they're doing, please feel free to message me directly.

If I know of a good group in your area I'm happy to make an introduction, or let you know about a local festival where you might be able to find a group. Or, if you live close enough to me, I'm also happy to share my own resources in terms of my group/events in Chicagoland.

I also have made a blanket offer that almost nobody has taken me up on, and that is that if you'd like to learn leadership or facilitation and you're close enough to me geographically, I'm more than happy to make space for emerging leaders. This is most easily done for people who want to learn to lead rituals or teach workshops, but I can also mentor people in event planning and small group leadership in Chicagoland. Yes, there is a vetting process for this; I don't just let anyone walk in and coteach with me or take ritual roles, or step into high-responsibility leadership positions. And if anyone's interested I can be more transparent about that, but basically it's to ensure that just because someone's motivated and wanting to claim their power that they aren't power-hungry, creepy, or a jerk. That's the short version. You can find me at www.shaunaauraknight.com and at shaunaaura@gmail.com Shauna Aurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17720223066273928132noreply@blogger.com
